How to Choose the Right Track for You in 2022

This year’s YES theme is “Claim Your Digital Space”. In a world where everything moved online in the last two years, we were forced to learn how to be more dependent on the Internet and use it in our everyday life (for school, university, work, and even social life). The web gives us endless possibilities – work from anywhere in the world, meet up with people from other parts of the globe, organize movies’ or games’ nights – but every advantage has its disadvantage and every new possibility comes with its risks.

Track sessions are neither lectures nor classes, they are workshops – based on your active participation and teamwork. During the sessions you will get input from the group leader and there will be different exercises that will help you visualize the topic and understand it in various situations. Every day you will spend two hours in track sessions, so it is important you choose something you are interested in.

This year’s tracks are: Social Life: Online vs. Offline, Media and News Literacy, Future of Work and Education and Digital Arts and Creativity.

Social Life: Online vs. Offline will help you understand the risks of the internet and sharing personal data. One of the earliest Forbes articles on Privacy Policy and Customer Tracking claims that “If you are not paying for it, you are the product”. In today’s world, data harvesting via social media is no longer a secret, but we can learn how to protects ourselves from it.

Media and News Literacy can help you understand how social media algorithms close people in information bubbles and how it becomes increasingly difficult to escape an extremist or a conspiracy rabbit hole once you are inside one. Nevertheless, there are several principles and golden guidelines you can follow when researching a topic to locate reliable sources and verify the information that you find.

Future of Work and Education will show you how the progress we have made since the introduction of the personal computer a few decades ago until 2022 has been mind-blowing. So how can we begin to imagine what the world will look like in 2072? What effect will the latest inventions have on the future of work and education?

Digital Arts and Creativity will show you how applications such as Google Arts & Culture let you see world-famous masterpieces directly on your screen and through virtual tours. You can appreciate the wonders of human creation with just a few clicks. However, what does it mean to be an artist in the age of computers and digital tools? This and many more similar questions will be discussed in this track.

If you are not sure which track to choose (and we know they all sound amazing) think about your interests, or maybe your concerns about today’s world. Maybe then you will find an idea about something that you would like to learn more about. Whichever track you choose, we can assure you that it will be interesting and fun.

If you want to suggest something for your track, you will get this opportunity on Instagram and Facebook in the few weeks after choosing it.
